This model also includes a contact algorithm, a temperature solver and static condensation for computational acceleration. Besides the process forces the induced heat flux has significant influence on the deformation; thus a non-steady state temperature simulation is coupled to the elastic analysis. The various actuators of the rolling mill are taken into account to control the effective roll gap form accurately. Recently we have developed a simulation module for the mechanical behaviour of the solidified strand shell (bulging) with special beam elements which take into account the temperature distribution and the shell thickness. The model can handle elastic and creep strain.
